چکیده
Dissipation-free photon-photon interactions at the single photon level is studied in the context of cavity electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT). For single atoms in the strong coupling regime exhibiting EIT, photon-photon interaction is bounded above by the single atom-photon coupling strength. Photon blockade and antibunching occur for both single and multi-atom cases. It is shown that photon-photon interaction as measured by photon blockade is largest when the cavity contains a single atom.

We show that a system of polaritons-combined atom and photon excitations-in an array of coupled cavities, under an experimental setup usually considered in electromagnetically induced transparency, is described by the Bose-Hubbard model. This opens up the possibility of using this system as a quantum simulator, allowing for the observation of quantum phase transitions and for the measurement of...

Quantum limit of dissipation-free photon-photon interactions at the few photon level is studied in the context of giant Kerr nonlinearities in cavity electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT). It is shown that photon-photon interaction is largest when the cavity contains a single atom. In contrast to conventional nonlinearities, increasing the number of atoms cannot increase the interactio...

Physical processes that could facilitate coherent control of light propagation are now actively explored [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]. In addition to fundamental interest, these efforts are stimulated by possibilities to develop, for example, a quantum memory for photonic states [6, 7, 8]. At the same time, controlled localization and storage of photonic pulses may allow novel approaches to manipulate light...

In this paper, we present a method to generate continuous-variable-type entangled states between photons and atoms in atomic Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC). The proposed method involves an atomic BEC with three internal states, a weak quantized probe laser and a strong classical coupling laser, which form a three-level Λ-shaped BEC system. We consider a situation where the BEC is in electromagn...
